... looking for further information on the Barrett Family of Fermanagh.
I have given what details I can
from shipping, marriage, death and birth of children certificates in Australia. As is the
case often, the age dates vary from certificate to certificate, hence the question marks.
I really hope someone can help in this regard.
1. Owen Barrett m. Anne Logan
2. Patrick Barrett b. (December?) 1778, Ireland - possibly Fermanagh m. 1803 Co Fermanagh
Ellen McHugh born 1780
3. At least following children of Patrick and Ellen known:
3a Owen Barrett b. (May?) 1814, Gushedy Beg
3b Mary Barrett b. (May?) 1815 or 1818. G.B.
3c Susan Barrett b. (15 June?) 1819, G.B.
3d Bridget Barrett b. (18 Sept?) 1822 or 1823, G.B.
3e Edward Barrett b. 1820 or 1825, G.B.
4. 3a Owen Barrett m. 1836 Edernay, Co Fermanagh to Mary McNally or McAnally, farm servant
from Termon? born (21 June?) 1816.
Parents: Arthur McNally and Catherine McCroly/Hannah McCrochy. Owen and Mary left behind a
son Michael born 1838 Gushedy Beg. He came to Australia in 1858, aged 20.
I really hope you can help in this regard. From the Griffiths Valuation Index, the Barrett
families in Co Fermanagh are all concentrated within a few miles of each other and it
would seem to me they all stem from a common thread as Barrett is certainly not a Co
Fermanagh name. I have found a reference to an Edward Barrett in the 1600s in Enniskillen
so perhaps he was a soldier who came that way first of all.
